POWERING FLORIDA’S ECONOMY, A MODERNIZED WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM TO SUSTAIN GROWTH

Description

Safal Partners President Mukta Pandit and Chief Delivery Officer Katie Adams examine Florida's workforce development challenges despite strong economic growth, highlighting a critical mismatch between job openings and qualified workers. While Florida has experienced robust population and GDP growth with unemployment near 3.8%, over half a million high-skill jobs remain unfilled in sectors like manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and technology, with 45.5% of working-age Floridians lacking postsecondary credentials. Three key strategies for accelerating sunshine state talent pipeline development include: accelerating support for employer-based apprenticeship programs, more rapid development of modular and stackable credentials to help Floridians more quickly move from education to employment, and boosting state incentives for employers and individuals to participate in skills training focused on high-demand sectors. Sustaining Florida's competitive advantage requires moving beyond its business-friendly reputation to build an agile, industry-aligned workforce system that quickly adapts to technological change and demographic shifts.
